The Slayers Crew

Asides from its captivating plot and slapstick humor, Slayers is probably most well-known for its interesting cast of characters. The "Slayers gang" is a very lively crew indeed, and I'm sure that you'll find yourself rooting for them on their wild adventures! Each character is extremely varied and original, from the energetic Lina Inverse to the calm, aloof Zelgadis Graywards. Overall, the characters are well developed, and the various character interactions are quite interesting!

Name: Lina Inverse
Age: 16
Personality: fiery tempered, witty, calculating, but caring underneath it all!
Description: She is everybody's favorite smart-aleck, fireball-wielding, intelligent sorceress! Lina Inverse is the protagonist and heroine of Slayers, but she's definitely not a typical heroine--I'll tell you that! ^^; At the tender age of sixteen, she has already established herself as one the most powerful magic-users in the world. Mazoku, bandits, and even dragons fear her awesome power... thus, her most popular nickname is "dragon spooker," along with "bandit killer." :D Despite her enormous amount of power, however, you might just find her appetite to be even more fearful! Name: Gourry Gabriev
Age: 22
Personality: extremely sweet and loyal, albeit *slightly* dense
Description: Throughout the series, Gourry Gabriev plays an important role as Lina's constant "guardian." He is extremely single-minded in his "duty," and would loyally follow her anywhere. Despite his lack of magical abilities, Gourry is still an extremely formiddable adversary. He is the wielder of the "Hikari no Ken," or the "Sword of Light," which is one of the most destructive and powerful weapons known to man. He is quite protective of the Sword of Light, as it is a valuable family hierloom, and many people (Lina included ^^) have tried to steal it. Gourry is one of the only people who can tap into the sword's true power, and his swordsmanship skills are top-notch. Although he may seem a *little* dense at times, he certainly is not an idiot! Name: Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune
Age: 14
Personality: energetic, happy, enthusiastic, loves to help people!
Description: Amelia is the daughter of Philionel, the crowned prince of Saillune. Yet, despite her royal blood, she really is not snobby in the least! She is extremely enthusiastic (maybe a little *too* much ^^) when it comes to helping people, and her motive is to spread justice! She acquired all of her values from her father, who loves justice just as fervently. ^^; Oftentimes, you will find Amelia atop a tree or a pole, belting out one of her "justice speeches" to her enemies! Overall, Amelia is very intent on spreading good, even if she is a bit inexperienced and naive at first. Name: Zelgadis Graywards
Age: 18
Personality: somewhat depressed, seemingly somber and cold, extremely driven... but he has a good heart!
Description: Zelgadis' unique appearance is attributed to the fact that he is a chimera--a hybrid creature that is 1/3 human, 1/3 brow demon, and 1/3 golem. While he was a human, Zelgadis thirsted after power... thus, his great-grandfather Rezo granted his wish and transformed him into his current form. Although Rezo kept his end of the bargain (Zelgadis became extremely powerful), Zelgadis viewed his new form as a terrible curse. From that point on, he despised Rezo vehemently, and became extremely cynical/untrusting. He began to spend nearly all of his time scouring the countryside in search of a cure. I admit that Zelgadis sometimes comes off as a cold, obsessive jerk... however, he really does ease up after he meets with Lina & Co. With the help of his friends (espcially Amelia ^^), Zelgadis learns to trust people again, and stops putting so much emphasis on his outer appearance.

Name: Sylphiel Nels Lahda
Age: 17
Personality: compassionate, kind-hearted, meek
Description: As a shrine maiden and an old friend of Gourry, Sylphiel is probably the most mellow out of the entire Slayers gang. ^^; She is the only character who is entirely loving and compassionate, for she is void of all malice and greed. She is somewhat lacking when it comes to her magic skills, being unable to cast most destructive Black Magic spells. However, she makes up for this with her skill in the art of White Magic (she is a powerful healer). Underneath it all, Sylphiel really is quite a forlorn individual... she witnessed the destruction of everything/everyone she loved in a single moment when Sairagg (her hometown) was struck. One could say that she hides all of her pain underneath a smile.

Name: Xelloss
Age: 1000+ yrs, but his appearance is that of a young man with purple hair
Personality: On the exterior, he is often goofy... but his true nature is a part of his being
Description: When Xelloss first appeared in Slayers NEXT, nobody was quite sure what to make of this self-proclaimed "Trickster Priest." However, in practically no time at all, it became obvious that he could not be trusted! Xelloss seems to enjoy tagging along with the crew, wreaking havoc. ^^; His answer to every question is, "that is a secret!"--adding to the air of mystery that surrounds him. Despite his "prankster" personality, however, Xelloss actually has quite a mean streak. (Er... I suppose you could say it's "a part of his nature!") He generally helps the Slayers gang only when it suits him, and he often disappears as soon as it dawns on everybody that they're in a mess! When he reappears in Slayers TRY, he plays a very interesting/important role. He is just as annoying and secretive as ever, but everybody has learned to be a bit more wary in his presence. Name: Martina Xoana Mel Navratilova
Age: 15-19??
Personality: VERY goofy, eccentric, and driven! she's a kind but vengeful person ^^;
Description: Martina first appears in the second season of Slayers (NEXT), as the princess of Xoana. Unfortunately, Lina Inverse accidentally destroyed Xoana, along with a mechanical golem called "Zoamelgustav" that Martina fervently worshipped. After she had basically lost everything, Martina dedicated her efforts to getting back at Lina. Thus, she hangs around with the Slayers gang, wreaking havoc every now and then! :P

Name: Filia Ul Copt
Age: 500+ yrs, but her appearance is usually that of a young, blonde lady
Personality: dogmatic and self-righteous, yet compassionate
Description: Filia Ul Copt is the self-righteous, stubborn Golden Dragon who joins Lina Inverse & Co. in Slayers TRY. As a priestess of the Fire Dragon King, she is an extremely pious individual--rather bent on saving the world by stopping the coming of Dark Star. She comes across Lina Inverse amidst her mission, who agrees to help Filia out of fear. ^^; (Filia brings a rather convincing letter from Lina's much-feared sister, Luna Inverse.) Throughout the series, Filia develops deep sorrow for Valgarv and fervent hatred for Xelloss. Name: Valgarv
Age: 1000+ yrs, but dragons/demons live long!
Personality: loyal, determined, revengeful, hateful (but only because he was wronged!)
Description: Valgarv was born a member of the Ancient Dragons. Unfortunately, the Golden Dragons (Filia Ul Copt's race) feared the tremendous power of the Ancient Dragons. In an act of cruelty, they (the Golden Dragons) committed mass genocide on their rival race (the Ancient Dragons). Valgarv was the only Ancient Dragon to survive, and he almost perished before Garv found him. In an act of pity, Garv offered to help Valgarv by transforming him into a mazoku (a powerful demon). After Valgarv is reincarnated as a mazoku, he serves Garv faithfully for over a thousand years. Later, Garv is killed by Hellmaster Phibrizo (Slayers NEXT), and Valgarv mistakenly believes that Lina Inverse was the one who had killed his savior. Thus, he dedicates his life to avenging the death of his former master by killing Lina Inverse.
